TWIC has engaged as consultant by Pune Municipal Corporation to review the Storm water Master Plan for the city of Pune. This assignments includes,

  • Examining the Draft Master Plan for further improvement
  • Final Review of the Master Plan to ensure that all comments are incorporated in the Final Document
  • Designing of Storm water Drains – Hydraulic and Structural
  • Compilation of Detailed Project Report including Project Management framework
  • Prioritization of works to be taken for execution

The area coverage for the design of the Storm Water Drain is 243.50sq.km and the cost of the Project is INR 4998.6 million

4. Dedicated Water Supply in Coimbatore

Client: Coimbatore city Municipal Corporation, Coimbatore

Corporation of Coimbatore has decided to set dedicated water supply scheme with pillar reservoir as a source. Most reliable source of water supply – i.e. Pillur Reservoir water is considered for this project; so as to ensure long term sustainability of the scheme for the design period. The water supply at the rate of 135 litres / capita / day has been considered for this project.

TWIC has been appointed for preparation of Bid documents and Evaluation of Technical bids for the work of Dedicated Water Supply Scheme, Pillur Phase II, taken up under JNNURM Scheme by the Coimbatore city Municipal Corporation, Coimbatore.

TWIC was mandated for Supervisory Consultancy Assignment for quality control and technical assistance in the installation of Tube Settlers and Dual Media Filters for enhancing the capacity of Water Treatment Plant from 71.6 MLD to 118.6 MLD at Pannaipatty for Madurai water supply.

18. Alternative Water Supply to SIPCOT Industrial Park, Sriperumbudur & Irungattukottai

SIPCOT is a Government of Tamilnadu enterprise, responsible for development of industrial infrastructure in Tamilnadu. Sriperumbudur and Irungattukottai are two of the main industrial hubs, located approx. 30km west of Chennai. There is no organized water supply to industries located in this region. SIPCOT depends on water from the Chembarambakkam lake, which in turn is monsoon fed/inflows from Andhra Pradesh. In order to ensure reliable and quality supply to industries an alternate program was required to be implemented.

The project proposed to use treated sewage water available at Koyembedu Sewage Treatment Plant as the source. The scope of work includes tertiary treatment, RO plant of capacity of 10 MLD at Koyembedu STP with a provision for modular expansion to 20 MLD. Pipeline of 20 MLD for transmission from the plant to the existing SIPCOT reservoir at Chembarambakkam for onward distribution to the industries was also envisaged. The estimated project cost was INR 100O Million.

TWIC was engaged by SIPCOT to undertake the following:

  • Preparation of Technical feasibility
  • Pilot testing/technology assessment
  • Submission of preliminary technical and feasibility report

1. Chennai Desalination Project

Chennai city with a population of 75 Lakhs has water demand of approximately 1500 MLD. Chennai is dependent on rainwater and surface water resources to meet this demand. In order to supplement the available resources, Government of Tamil Nadu in the year 2004 decided to implement a mega water project based on desalination. The capacity of the desalination project was envisaged at 300 MLD along with associated piping of 50km and a power project of 100 MW

TWIC was engaged by Government of Tamil Nadu to carry out the pre-feasibility study of the project. TWIC developed and prepared the report, which addressed the following issues:

  • Selection of project sites
  • Technology assessment
  • Preliminary technical and commercial evaluation.

These reports formed the basis for implementation of the desalination projects in Chennai

2. Development of Captive Desalination and Power Plant

Client: Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited (IL&FS)

IL&FS engaged the services of TWIC to undertake the following:

  • Development of the concept
  • Site survey and feasibility
  • Technology assessment
  • Technical & commercial feasibility
  • Development of contractual documentation to facilitate financing

The final report was submitted and approved by Tata Steel. Since the main project is getting delayed, implementation of the desalination and power project would be taken up once approval is obtained by Tata Steel.

1. Technical services to IL&FS for an opportunity to acquire a controlling equity stake in Maynilad Water Services Inc, Philippines

Client: Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited (IL&FS)

TWIC has been associated with due diligence of a major water supply project in Manila. TWIC provided technical services to IL&FS for an opportunity to acquire a controlling equity stake in Maynilad Water Services Inc, which operates a 2000 MLD water treatment and distribution system in Manila West, Philippines.

A Consortium led by IL&FS was one of the four international consortia qualified to bid for the controlling equity stake. TWIC as part of the consortia carried out extensive technical, financial and legal due diligence on the exercise. Outputs were shared through cross functional team reviews and the key outputs were as under:

  • Focus on physical loss reduction (high physical losses in the existing system)
  • Capital expenditure program to achieve service levels and physical loss reduction
  • Program Management (automation, project management)
  • De-bottlenecking and Streamlining the Existing System
  • Commercial loss reduction (focus on reducing errors and losses and on new technology in metering and collection)
  • Large Account Focus (50% of the revenues were from commercial and industrial consumers)

2. Technical and commercial due diligence services for Water & Wastewater Treatment to China Water Holdings Pvt Ltd, China

Client: Standard Charted IL & FS Asia Infrastructure Growth Fund Company Pvt Ltd

TWIC was associated with Standard Charted IL&FS Asia Infrastructure to provide Technical Due Diligence (TDD) services for the potential acquisition of 12 Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) and 2 Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) in China
